How to set up the connection to the chatroom using Trillian.

Ok, I downloaded the most recent version of Trillian (basic 3) just to make sure that the info is up to date. You can download it at http://www.download.com/Trillian/3000-2150-10047473.html?part=dl-trillian&subj=dl&tag=button

For those of you who don’t know this program, it allows you to connect to MSN, AIM, ICQ and Yahoo Messenger in addition to IRC channels using the same program and all at the same time.

To connect to the chat room using this, after downloading and installing, you need to do the following:

Click on the menu item (top left) “Trillian”, choose “Connections” from the drop down menu, and then choose “Manage My Connections”.

Then choose “Add a new connection” which should give you a choice of choosing MSN, AIM, ICQ, etc. Choose the “IRC”

Fill in the following information:

Server Alias – chat, gemchat, whatever you feel like calling it so that you remember what it is.

In the box underneath this, you need to put in:
Yey.be::6667 (that’s yey dot be colon colon 6667)

Underneath, fill in nickname (use your forum name, so we know who you are)
Underneath this, fill in username (same as nickname, I think)
Underneath this, fill in user info (I just put same as nickname)

You can also choose to click the box “connect at startup”.

NOW…

Click on the button that says “Change”

Choose the tab “Connection”

Go to “Perform Buffer”, check the box for “After successful connection to this IRC server, perform the following commands”.

In the text box beneath, enter “/join #go” (minus the quotes) That's slash join space #go
There should be a space between “join” and “#”, no spaces between the rest.

Choose “Save settings”
If you have chosen to connect at startup, when you boot up Trillian it will automatically connect to the chatroom.

If you have not chosen to connect at startup, do the following after opening Trillian.

Go to the icons above your contact list in the main Trillian window (this is what should be showing when you open the program after configuring in your various instant messenger preferences). You will see coloured dots above the contact list. If you “mouse over” the dots, it will show you which IM programs each one is for. The grey one is for IRC. Right click on it, and choose “Reconnect” to start your connection to the Chat room.

Anyone having problems with this, let me know...
