PLEASE LIMIT PICTURES TO 600px IN WIDTH! Uploading a picture for display: I use Image Shack: http://www.imageshack.com/ There is now a charge to use their service. I believe it's $20 per year or $2 per month. Notice, there is a resize option on this page. If your picture is a standard size (taken with your digital camera) this will automatically size it down. 1. Browse your computer and locate the picture 2. Click HOST IT 3. In a minute your chosen pic will appear as a link. to use LINK DIRECTLTY TO IMAGE, copy the code and place it between [img]copied%20code[/img] tags. easy peasy no tags needed, as they are already included in the code Image Shack has given you.. |

Other good (free) image viewing programs that let you crop/rotate/resize images include XnView and IrfanView. These are pretty easy to use, much better than MS Paint, and (as mentioned) free-as-in-beer. http://www.xnview.com/ http://www.irfanview.com/ |

I'm trying to take pictures of my rocks and don't even get enough time to position the rock and then look into the digital camera when the camera turns off!...I havn't found a program yet to transfer the picture from my digital 3.1 megapixil camera however I did find the correct USB cord to use! I thought I would practice tonight taking pictures but actually try tomorrow, outside, during daylight hours for best results. I wanted to share with you guys what I have. It looks as though it's going to be a long night. You guys are really great, thank you for sharing your knowledge. I hope one day I might be able to give to you help in a area that I may posess the expertise and give back to you. If nothing else, I am learning so much Gems, rocks, cameras. Thanks, your friend acushia |

For gems, jewels and general closeups, it really is almost essential to have a macro focus on the camera. That the little flower setting on most cameras: Also I've taken some reasonable closeups by putting something on the scanner and then sizing down to post. Good luck. |

O.k., I'm feeling silly here -- I've designed full-scale websites, but can't seem to get this forum's software to cooperate with me. I use flickr to host my images & they request a link-back. Well and good. I can get an image to work fine on this forum if I exclude flickr's linking html code. For example: This works: Code: [img]http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2312/2273778529_f2fea9aa20_m.jpg[/img]
but this doesn't: [img]<img%20src="http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2312/2273778529_f2fea9aa20_m.jpg"%20width="240"%20height="192"%20alt="52_praisolitelrg.jpg"%20/>[/img] and neither does this (which is what Flickr asks that I use): [img]<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/22314586@N00/2273778529/" title="52_praisolitelrg.jpg by ptorraca, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2312/2273778529_f2fea9aa20_m.jpg" width="240" height="192" alt="52_praisolitelrg.jpg" /></a> [/img] nor [url]<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/22314586@N00/2273778529/" title="52_praisolitelrg.jpg by ptorraca, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2312/2273778529_f2fea9aa20_m.jpg" width="240" height="192" alt="52_praisolitelrg.jpg" /></a> [/url] Any clues? |

You are trying to use html coding and that won't work. Simply use the format that does work. |

And if you remove everything EXCEPT what is between the tags you get this: No link. |

The only way I could make it easier is to format the picture myself, upload it and email you when it's done. |

What happened to my thumbnails? I linked to some photos in Imageshack in this topic viewtopic.php?f=37&t=13475&p=140044#p140044 - and for a time they showed up fine as thumbnails. Now they are suddenly HUGE. What happened? Can anyone help? |
