Identifying Lab-Grown Diamonds
Golden Gate Chapter invites you to attend... Identifying Lab-Grown Diamonds
Presented by
Dr. James Shigley
Wednesday, April 8
Synthetic diamonds are here to stay, but disclosure and identification continue to be an issue for the trade. Whether synthetics are grown by the HPHT (high pressure, high temperature) or CVD (chemical vapor deposition) methods, we need to be able to detect them. Dr. James Shigley will discuss how to differentiate synthetics from natural by examining their growth features. Don't miss this important lecture by one of GIA's leading researchers! Shigley is a distinguished research fellow at GIA in Carlsbad, California. Prior to joining GIA in 1982, he studied geology as an undergraduate at the University of California Berkeley, and later received his doctorate in geology from Stanford University. He helps direct GIA's research activities on the identification of diamonds and colored gemstones, and has ongoing research interests in the natural geological environments of gem mineral formation as well as the characterization of gem materials. Dr. Shigley is the author of more than 180 published articles on diamonds and other gemstones in various journals, and has been a well-known speaker on gemological topics on nearly 250 occasions.

You know, I don't know what this would entail. Why don't you contact Nancy Joys, The New President of the GIA Golden Gate Alumni Society and ask her for the 411: nzjoys@yahoo.com
