The First White Laser Red, green, and blue lasers are quite useful, but each kind is still limited by its ability to emit light of only one color. Researchers have been looking for a way to create a monolithic structure capable of emitting red, green, and blue all at once. The payoff, they realized, would be a white laser with applications in video displays, solid-state lighting, and a laser-based version of Wi-Fi. Now a team of scientists and engineers at Arizona State University says it has created the first lasers that can shine light over the full spectrum of visible colors.

Interesting, for a small scale light source I could see this evolving into something useful. I don't see it replacing the household lightbulb, but for something like the light box for our equipment perhaps a very useful tool. Of course cost and marketability may inhibit its use to niche markets. Medical, space, military. But you never know it may find its way into our phone by next week
