Interesting.......I'm not sure I buy it, but it is an interesting theory:
Oceans of liquid diamond, filled with solid diamond icebergs, could be floating on Neptune and Uranus, according to a recent article in the journal Nature Physics.

quoting the article: ".....When the pressure dropped to about 11 million times the atmospheric pressure at sea level on Earth and the temperature dropped to about 50,000 degrees, solid chunks of diamond began to appear...."

on Neptune? Uhmmmm................

How about one big diamond that's 4km across and 10^33 carats, http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/3492919.stm, the white dwarf core of a star?

LOL...I just finished reading The Elegant Universe which explains the 11 necessary dimensions to mathematically support String Theory........

The Laws of Physics have changed since I was a lass.
I think they run all the new theories by Charlie Sheen for a final proof read before publication.

Lmao...nice to know you found some light reading to do while the foot healed. I think it's time to get back to work now before you start on your Phd in quantum mechanics.

"Diamond is a relatively common material on Earth" funny

of extreme interest is that diamond crystals are less dense than liquid diamond. as the article stated water is the same, which is why ice floats. antimony and bismuth also float having the same property. Looking at the physical pressure and temperature parameters, these diamond oceans would require a technology that does not exist now to be able to mine them. I think the quantum mechanics degree will be easier to acquire. After all, quantum mechanics, string theory, membranes, etc. were included in my physics IV class, which we called Science Fiction I.

Was the original research submitted on April 1st ?

The atmospheric pressure on Neptune is 100 to 0.1 bar

To melt Diamond you need 11 million bar

Now Diggin Blue, the question we should ask is, "if you shine a strong light on Uranus, can you see diamond structures?" I guess not.
