Dear guys,

I am new to the industry. I am curious if each indivdual gemstones have a unqiue 'fingerprint' inclusion that we are able to identify their family, origins, treatment/ehancement? If not all, how much information could be gathered? Do we have a online gemstones inclusion database? Thank you.

Regards,
Zen

zen, the interior of a gemstone can tell a lot, but it can also tell very little. Being able to derive clues from inclusions requires a microscope with appropriate lighting, at least one working eye, a set of three books and experience, lots of it...

There is a few 'fingerprint inclusions' in the sense you use the words but it's not as clear cut as it may seem.

A camera that attaches to your microscope is very useful too. It's the only way to build a full and detailed record of what you see. This pictorial record of your own is also a very useful learning tool, both in the making and as a source of comparative reference.

If you are like me, then within a few months of starting compilation for such a record, you will have learned sufficient to return to at least several of those stones whose inclusions *and other features* you have already phottographed to do further or better photography than you were able to do the first time around with the knowledge you had at that time.

In my view, and most particularly at the beginning of such a study, concentrating on learning about a small range off interesting (not necessarily expensive) stones gives a better basis to build on that then looking very briefly at a very wide range of stones. What you learn about one stone and its phenomena usually helps a little towards the study of the next. One can't learn too much :D
