Just saw a inlay bracelet on FB with what he called rosarita red he used to replace broken or missing red coral. Looked it up and seems it was super-heated gold-bearing ore tailings and ended up with a red stone. Any one know about this and have some of it?

I think the proper description of this material is slag glass.

A geologist confirmed that it was named after a beach in Mexico? Interesting conclusion from an assay. Too bad we aren't given the actual results of the "assay".

Once again the answer is slag glass. I am always amazed by the many ways people have tried to market this kind of basically worthless industrial waste.

I have a slab or two of that exact material. It is indeed slag (air bubbles) but gorgeous . I have had it since I was a teenager - back in the 80s I had a couple of ladies who asked me to cut and polish them big cabs for pendants. They are quite striking when polished - the yellow streaks contast nicely with the deep orange-red.
