Hello. A customer is asking about vent holes in a 14K hollow form item. She thinks it is plated over resin although nothing about resin is stamped on the article or was listed in the description of the item.
Do both hollow form items and those that are electroformed over resin both use vent holes? If so, are they used for the same purpose?
I assume that hollow form is worth more since it doesn't have the gram weight of the resin included in the price of the item? ' I appreciate any assistance. Thank you.

Typically electroforming is done over wax which has been made electrically conducive. After plating, the wax is dissolved out.....through venting holes. I have not heard anything about the use of "resin", whatever that could actually be.

Probably referring to the resin used in DLP 3d printers. I use it every day to make models for lost wax casting.
For electroforming, it would be a poor material, since it is hard to get to melt or dissolve when it is cured.
A practical material would be that used in the 3d printers made by Solidscape and DWS - a wax-like solid that is melted and applied similar to an inkjet printer. Melts and dissolves fine.

Thank you for the replies. They were very helpful.
I just uploaded a sample photo of the inside of a bangle made by Milor showing the 14K, resin and Milor stamps.
I assume the recessed circular covers with text are covering the venting holes. We are seeing more of these type of electroformed over resin items in our showroom. Women like the bangles because the resin offers resistance to denting over the hollow form bangles and they are less expensive than solid gold items. They also like the earrings, especially older women because with the resin they still get a posh look at savings over solid and they are light enought to not drag down earlobes.
Because we get questions about how thick the plating is over resin, we have contacted Milor and all they will say is that it's proprietary information. I would really would like to know the % of resin and the % of gold, but don't want to deconstruct one. Thank you.
