Hello! I have a 2 - part questions I'm asking you guys for advice and tips on
1 purchasing a sound, stable gemologist microscope w/o breaking my bank of $1200. I'm basically a beginner and want the best equipment possible. Hopefully Robert will "chime in" and refer a good microscope.
2 When Rock Tumbling, does it matter about the grit? I think I purchased 3 different grits to use to get the rocks smooth, (2 or 3 years ago). I have a few rough amethyst's and miscellaneous rocks that I'm itching to do
Thank you for reading my post and have a marvelous day...Or night. QIA, Anita

What do you mean different? If your talking size. Silicon Carbide is the most used medium. Typical sequence is 80/120, 220, 600, 1200 then polish. Each stage the drum and material need to be cleaned thoroughly before starting the next stage if you only have a single drum. Just saying it is more economical to buy tumbled then to do it, but can be a good hobby if your into it.
