1. So, am I understanding this right that the beryllium diffusion was why the stone was sold at such a low price? 2. Also, that the retail price is subjected to the pricing method of the original retailer and has nothing to do with the real value of the stone.
1. Yes. 2. Yes. One can legally price a gem as high or as low as they choose. They are only legally obligated to properly represent it. The $2000 price, as Steve (1bwana1) mentioned, is just a scribble. It means nothing. It was based on nothing. It was a deceptive tactic.
I contacted the seller and told them that I did not like the yellow sapphire and they refunded me for it, I just had to repay for return shipping. I bought the sapphire to uses in one of my personal projects, I am duplicating a ring that I wanted to buy.
A friend of the family just had made a orange sapphire and diamond ring. This is seller is a famous in Oregon for there jewelry, so I am surprised with this disclaimer of theirs.
"Rubies and sapphires commonly undergo treatments (typically heat treatment, either with or without beryllium) to intensify the stone's natural color. These treatments are permanent. We will never sell a stone that was glass filled or otherwise treated with something not permanent".

This is the AGTA proper, required disclosure of Diffusion Treatment is Sapphire.
U Diffusion: The use of chemicals in conjunction with high temperatures to produce ARTIFICIAL color change and/or asterism-producing inclusions. Note: It is a violation of the FTC Guides to fail to disclose diffusion on gemstones in advertising, promotional literature or commercial documents. Suggested methods of disclosure are: “(Gemstone): chemically colored (Color) by diffusion.” Example: “Sapphire: chemically colored blue by diffusion.” If the color of the diffused gemstone does not permeate the entire stone, then the following statement must also appear: “Although the color induced in diffusion treated gemstones is permanent, it does not permeate the entire gemstone; therefore, recutting or repolishing is not recommended.”

Yes and no, who is "We"?
I did know if it was OK to include the names of retailers so I left it out.

I personally do not see the harm in this case, the chain is listed with the GIA retailers having said GIA trained staff. You stated they honored their 60 day return. You personally would benefit by learning what has been relayed here to you by the very experienced.

As 1Bwana1 pointed out, this statement is UNTRUE and a deliberate misrepresentation and violation of the standards of the Federal Trade Commission. They should be reported. To The Jewelers Vigilance Committee as well.
