Hello fellow gemmos,
I've been sifting through the spendy synthetic detectors a little more intently lately and am interested to know if any of you have had experiences (good or bad) that might assist in my decision.
The candidates are the GIA ID100, Sherlock Holmes (yehuda) or any of the other devices that allow testing of mounted stones.
They're all fairly expensive so i'd like to make it a "buy once, cry once" experience that leaves me with a great machine. Thank you in advance!

I think both of these will work well determining which stones need to be referred out to a lab to be verified. Which is really what they do.

Which is best for what you do in your business is the real question. If you are primarily concerned with large stones either will serve you well. If you are working with mounted rings with lots of melee, or loose parcels of stones the Yehuda will be much more efficient because you don't have to examine each stone with a probe individually.

My 2¢.
I use the EXA and it has several other gemological applications which make it a wise, albeit expensive, addition to one's lab.
