We as well have decided to not show at the GJX, to many unknowns and I anticipate traffic will not be all to great. Even before the pandemic traffic was down in my opinion. That is from my perspective of going to Tucson, everyone has their own motivations for going, so low attendance is probably a good thing. Will maybe do a day trip in and out to the open air shows in Quartzsite and same for Tucson, see if a lucky find can be had. We are fortunate enough to be close by we can make round trips to Quartzsite 2 or three times in a weekend.

Well, I'll be there twice within two weeks, so lower attendance may not be a bad thing

I need to go out on January 18th for my Gem-A foundation exam and then again for work the week of AGTA/GJX. I certainly wouldn't mind less congestion and perhaps more stone availability. I'm just a few minutes down the road from glhays, so it is at least a quick trip out.

I had been wanting to get my FGA for years (many different reasons) and finally got around to signing up earlier this year. Unfortunately, this coincided with my work and family life becoming extremely busy over the past 6 months, so it has been a bit hectic

My lab class was in NYC last month, so I was relieved that the final exam would be taken a bit closer in Tucson. Of course, two weeks later would have been more convenient, but what can you do

I haven't taken an academic class in over 15 years, so it has been nice to get back into a student mindset again. As I am usually on the other side of the "podium" it has been helpful to gain a new perspective on gemological education. I certainly have a renewed appreciation for the challenges our distance education students have balancing their busy lives and educational requirements

I am assuming you have 3 shots by now, and by the end of January could most likely get number 4. I would think the drive down would be a much higher risk than Omicron.

That makes sense. It's pretty clear by now that the shots don't make you immune from either catching the virus or spreading it.

I wonder if the government will ever admit that this makes the mandates nonsense. A few weeks ago at our lyme doctor a new person came in for an ozone IV. She worked for the federal government, and was required to get the shot. A day after her first shot she was in the hospital with blood clots, and has been dealing with low blood oxygen, hence the ozone IV. She ended up loosing her job, since she wouldn't get the second shot after the first one nearly killed her. People shouldn't be made to make this difficult decisions. The most bizzar thing was, with her job she was working from home.

Do you think that vaccinated people can not catch or spread the virus? I think you need to do a little more research. Just have a look at the NFL. This week there are over 200 fully vaxed players testing positive. They are spreading it among themselves, one vaccinated player to another vaccinated player.

Even the CDC, which has put all the eggs in the vaccine basket admit:

"CDC expect that anyone with Omicron infection can spread the virus to others, even if they are vaccinated or don't have symptoms"
