Most importantly, there is nothing wrong with turning down an appraisal when you don't feel you can or want to do it. Better to pass than be wrong.

That's the one I believe, yes. Thank you for that. Was there somewhere specific that you can find a directory like that or was it just a general search?

General search. I've been doing appraisals for 35 years. I'm good at tracking things down. In addition to Google I will use maker's mark resources, like the JCK book and American Jewelry Manufacturers. Also auction sites like Invaluable, 1st Dibs, Bonhams, Heritage, Clars, Michaans, Doyles....sometimes they have already done the research for you.

I just did a google search for 10k diamond hip hop rapper ring and came up with some comps, but I can't find any stamped ALM. You might have better luck:

I appreciate the websites. I had figured it was a general search but was curious if you had some secret website or something that had a link to all suppliers :D

Update on the ring, based on everything that we can identify it looks like they are just really poorly cut (and deep) glass. If there are any diamonds at all in this ring they are so poorly cut that they would be in the range of about $2 US each. Diamond tester isn't responding. A few other stones were found with conchoidal fractures and rounded facets. A couple with some pits that we suspect were bubbles (as they are pretty round). The other gemmologist was able to get a little bit of a polariscope reaction on some (I couldn't) and they were saying it looks like ADR.

Paired with the hackly (orange peel) wear and the light green (bluish green) SWUV reaction and none under LWUV the only thing we can find that fits would be jewellery glass (paste). There will be limiting conditions on this one for sure but we confirmed that there's no value in the stones for this ring so it will be labour to hand set each stone and the weight in gold only.

Thanks again for everyone's insight. I really appreciate it.
