Hi everyone,
A rough stone was brought to me for identification .I verified the stone as calcite on the basis of these results.
colour milky white, clarity translucent, hardness 3.5,SG 2.8,when i put some acid on the surface of the rough , i noticed gass bubbles were coming out from the rough. So i concluded it to be belonging to the calcite group.
One interesting thing regarding this stone is that it glows brightly in the dark.
So i want your opinions upon this stone, does a calcite glow in the dark.
Here is the image

Could be long-lasting, impressive Phosphorescence. LINK

Does it glow for long? Is it also fluorescent?

I have read that calcite, in addition to being flourescent, may be phosphorescent.

yes it keeps glowing in the dark for long hours.I have no ideas for the reason why it glows for long hours.

That's one boulder to keep next to a sunny window... and the freak out when it glows back at you t sundown! 8)

Sounds like phosphorescence. Calcite is notorious... even used as physiological marker because of it. There are several sources with such properties, I do not know the list by heart... Canada is in for sure.

Where does the rock come from?
