Hello,

looking "opal" in The Gemology Project (http://www.gemologyproject.com/wiki/ind ... title=Opal), it is reported that specific gravity is 2.15 (+0.07;-0.90).

It means 1,25 to 2,27.

Check on other sites, they report about 1,98 to 2,25.

Is it the value 1,25 in The Gemology Project too small?
I think it is a mistake.

i think a swap typo between "0" and "9" has occurred.......
thank you for reporting that...
OTOH the same -0.90 value is reported on the GTpro software AND on "tables of gemstone identification" by Brigit Gunther though...... ..........."tables of gemstone identification" by Roger Dedeyne reports 1.95-2.25 values......
ciao
alberto

I have a stone "like-an- opal" with SG = 1,9 (or better, between 1,87 to 1,92).

Could be it a nice stone or a fake opal ? #-o

There are several typos in The Gemology Project.
Join and fix them.
