I am pleased to announce that selected gems from my collection of tourmaline will be on display at the new Colorado School of Mines geological museum in Golden Colorado starting the day before the Denver show in September 2011. The opening of the presentation will be at the annual dinner that the Colorado School of Mines gives the night before the Denver show. I plan on attending and maybe get to meet some GO members. If you would like to see a sample of the gems that will be displayed, check out the Bruce Fry collection on the Gemological Project Pages. All gems were personally cut by yours truly.

Thanks for your support.

Bruce

I certainly hope and expect that the Laurellites will be on display under lighting conditions that really display their beauty and uniqueness. The museum is working on ideas to display the tourmaline and I am concerned about lighting as the most important item, short of which tourmalines to display. Showing the colors of tourmaline is the name of the game. I expect the stones to be on display for most of a year.

WOW Bruce, that's some pat on the back from the establishment. Well done.
You're worried about lighting...all I can think of is that's one dusting job I wouldn't want.

Yet, another reason why I wish I still lived in Colorado...

Sorry I am unable to make the display, and congrats Bruce!

The museum will only be displaying about 100 of my biggest and best gems with the emphases on color and more color. It is sadly true that the tourmaline will charge up under the lights and become dusty, but then we are all just dust blowing in the wind (Title of high school graduation song). I hope,at least, that when it is my time, I will still be attracted to tourmaline. Since I have to keep them coming, I will end with, It is better to be seen and become dusty, than never to have flashed a facet or crossed an eye.

Bruce

Just finished a 1.5 carat oval tourmaline that is the color of hay that is not quite ready to be put in the barn, but suitable for cows to get their licks in.

Just read this thread ... since I live in the Denver area I'll be sure to visit this exhibit! Btw, the Denver G&M show has been great - from this customer's POV.

Glad to hear the Denver show is fine. I will be visiting Golden/Denver again for the next show to be sure. It should be fun.

I just got back from a rather wild weather trip to Golden CO from my home in Pennsylvania. I discussed the display of my collection and I will be designing the display in one of the museum's permanent display cases. Laurellite will certainly be front and center and have areas of incandescent and daylight equivalent lighting to show it off.

I will be in the Denver area for about a week before the show and I would have time to meet with anyone that might be interested in talking about tourmaline and the show.

Unfortunately, I have had to decline the display of my tourmaline collection at the Colorado School of Mine's geological museum for personal reasons. I hope that everyone gets a chance to visit and see their wonderful collection of mineral specimens.
