Memorial Day is for us a bittersweet day. Sally and I would like to take a few minutes to say thank you to all of our brothers and sisters who stand in harms way to give us the life we live! We also send our greatest sympathy to those family members who live every day with a memory of their loved ones lost in line of duty.
Our family has a long and storied military history of service to this country, Mexico, and Canada. The last WWII vets passed a few years ago. My father and only a couple of uncles are left from service in Korea and they are all in their 80s. Several uncles reaching their 70s served in Viet Nam. My generation, Sally and myself, served mostly during peacetime. However I found myself sweeping mines in the straights of Hormus and the Persian Gulf. While cousins served in Kosovo, Iraq, Afgahnistan.
Several purple hearts are a part of our family, as are numerous medals acquired for duties performed. To my knowledge only 1 family member has not returned from combat. The friends we have lost are many, and thus a bittersweet day.
Regardless of your political views of this presidency or any other, please support your family and friends who believe their service to you meant enough to step into harms way.
Dan & Sally Holland USN, VFW.

THANK YOU

And I would like to say thanks for my father-in-law, deceased these couple of years, who was on a ship that mapped the way for the landing ships at Iwo Jima and Okinawa.
