Hello,

I would like to share with you a recent discovery from Antetezambato, Madagascar.

In april this year has been found a perimorph of demantoid garnet after fossilized coral. Here are some pictures

I guess it is a good topic for a good discussion! Any comments are welcome!

All the best

Already certified by IGM in Antananarivo, and confirmed by National history museum of Paris, Paleo department.

Definitely perimorph of demantoid after fossilised coral. And I bought it directly in Antetezambato as I live in Madagascar (yes I'm in France right now) and I'm in the stones and mineral business, so in fact I knew it was demantoid when I bought it, and identification by a lab is of course the first thing I've made to give this specimen more credibility. I posted on others forums and discussed with many specialists, was hard to convice everyone, but now this specimen start to be a little bit known in the mineralogical "community", as it is still from last news the only one discovered.

There is a link to a scan of the certificate from IGM.

There was an article about this specimen on the website mineralogical records until recently, but this article doesn't exist anymore.

Anyway, thanks!

At least you know now that such a specimen occured in Antetezambato! Maybe I didn't post in the right place...just wanted an appraisal... :(

Or maybe someone knows where I can get an appraisal for this specimen?

Thanks in advance!

I would contact Bonham's Natural History Department.

A fascinating specimen. Thanks for showing it. Any cash value must surely be related to its rarity (and desirability) as a 'thumb-nail' sized mineral specimen only. I.e. you should not be looking for an independent gem appraiser but a mineral specimen market expert. In addition to Bonhams, you could think to approach Rod Lavinsky at The Arkenstone Gallery, Texas. Rod is an active collector, trader and auctioneer of a very wide range of mineral specimens. rob@irock.com. His business claims to have trading links not only with major private collectors but with major museums around the world. See http://www.irocks.com . Given that you will probably be reluctant to let such an unusual specimen out of your possession, be aware that Rod usually visits Europe at least one per year (for the for the Munich show).

Gook luck!
