Post subject:  Lead Glass filled Star Rubies reportedly from Madagascar

Dear all,
I would like to inform you that a new study is now online on the www.giathai.net website and will soon be on www.gia.edu:

It is about some very convincing Lead glass filled star rubies.

An interesting note: This new product is not yet in the market but in the next coming weeks it is likely that such treated stones will become much more available than in the past. In fact the Thai burner working on this new material came to see GIA gemologists and invited us to visit his factory and see what he is working on. We could see that several tens of kilos of finished products (from pink to red and to dark red, and from nearly opaque to nearly transparent) are ready to enter the market.

As he is conserned about disclosure issues in consuming markets and the reputation of Thailand and of Thai burners, he decided to contact the GIA Laboratory in Bangkok and to collaborate with us in order to get the gemological community, the trade and the final consumer informed about the new product.

We hope that this attitude and excellent collaboration will be useful providing a good exemple for other burners in the future.

The study is already online on www.giathai.net:

and will soon be on www.gia.edu

Hoping that you will find it interesting and useful.

All the best,

Is anyone else having problems connecting to the GIA Thai website? I have been trying off and on for hours, to no avail.
