I have been pondering for weeks now - on what this inclusion is in my amethyst. I can't quite figure it out and its been bothering me so much i thought i would try and take a picture of it, through my 10 x loup....and it worked! Well, its not a brilliant picture - but hopefully its good enough for you all to see my very annoying inclusion!!!
I can't seem to decide whether its a fingerprint inclusion, a healing fracture or something else....or maybe tiger or zebra stripes???
Can anyone shed some light on it??
Cheers
PIxette
Ps - yipee - the picture thing worked - hope its the right size and not too big...is it ok barbara??

Hi Pix,
nice shooting From here I would call that a fingerprint. You can compare it with a shot Barbra took for the GP. Look alike ey? Fingerprints are healed fractures btw...
one question though... what happened to the colour of that amethyst? Is that the camera?

I thought it was a liquid inclusion commonly seen in amethyst referred to as "soap scum" or "zebra stripes." Guess it's a good thing I waited to chime in. It's hard to get a good look from the iPhone. I bet your pic looks totally different when I get back to the big monitor.

Gee Pixette, I wish I had one. But actually I collect inclusions in Sapphires, and now even a ruby. When I buy cheap gems it's supprising how I get my moneys worth. And if your 'methyst gets stolen, you can assure the cops it has a fingerprint in it.

it sure looks like a textbook "zebrastripe"- some older texts also call it "soapscum" .
gee - i wonder what you'd get after washing down a zebra?
anyway, your fga notes probably list the "zebrastripe" as one of the few 'diagnostic inclusions' - along with "horsetails" - all has a very equine slant, hasn't it?
