Forgive me for being sceptical, but you have been buying rough, having it cut in India, selling it, both locally, and in Europe,so why are you not finding outlets with Indian/European jewellery companies? Is the rough of a poor grade maybe? Photos are really going to help with this one! Barry.
As a reference, I am attaching a picture of aqua that I had sold. The picture has been clicked in normal daylight (no direct sunlight) and I had to reduce the size for me to able to upload. These pieces were cut and sold in Europe. Picture of a cut gem are also attached for reference. Apart from Aqua, Emerald and Tourmaline (green and pink) are other stones that we have dealt in.
Having said that...Going through my posts, and responses received, I don't think my question(s) came out clearly. Let me try and rephrase my questions to see if I make better sense...
Given that I can procure various grades of rough - mainly Emerald, Aqua and Tourmaline, what would be the best business model? Which stones should I focus on? Which grade? What is the best way to sell rough? Or is it better to get them cut and sell?
I have found the cut stones to be most profitable, but slow moving. Rough can sell faster, but every buyer has their own preference...in terms of grade etc.. is there a way to form long term relationships with buyers so that while buying the rough, I have better visibility around the grade I should be buying?
Thank you all for your valuable inputs once again.
Gemfield gets medium grade Emerald to Jaipur for auction.
Limited people get invited to take part in that auction. They had to stop auctioning in Jaipur as the Zambian government wanted the auction to take place within Zambia...not sure if that stand has changed now.
To answer your question, yes, we can get the quality that they get, at better or similar prices. But, we wont be able to get the volume that they can get (don' t have that kind of financial muscle). We can get top grade as well, in smaller quantities.
