I am New in this forum i am planning to visit India (jaipur) to buy Green Tourmaline. Could some one with experience give me some advise on Buying Gems in India ? Thank You.
I don't have any India-specific knowledge, but here are some general tourmaline tips: You may know this, but just in case, never buy closed c-axis tourmaline (ie, tourmaline that is black down the length). If you got it for an amazingly low price it might be worth it, provided the color from the side is reasonably light, but even when it's optimally cut for best light return, it is a) still gonna be pretty dark, and b) jewelers will hate you if you ask them to set it. Because of those special features, it's best to leave those stones to the fishies even if you could get them for good prices. As it happens, it seems that the rising price of fine tourmaline rough has caused a similar rise even in closed-c tourmaline even though its value as a cut stone is still as iffy as ever. The other thing, which you probably also know, is to avoid rough that's too skinny. Yes, you could have a rectangle cut to any length you like, but the longer they are the harder they are to sell. Stick to rough that's as blocky, as lightly toned (even the very light minty stuff is a lot better than the blackish stuff), and as unmurky in color as possible.

Miguel, I doubt the guy was ever telling the truth, just another bored person, bulls---ting us. If you have no knowledge, no contacts, and no real idea of what you're doing, forget about going there to buy rough. Barry.
Oh well, I don't mind typing out the tourmaline spiel. It lets me pretend that anyone has big tourmaline for sale, open or closed c, at prices I could touch.

Well there is certainly a website by this name ' hafizgemstones.com ,. there may not be any connection between the two though.
This hafiz is almost certainly not related to Syed Nafees Ali of HafizGemstones. Syed is very knowledgeable about rough, and he certainly doesn't need advice on what kind of tourmaline to buy. The term "hafiz" refers to someone who has memorized the entire Qur'an, and it's also a name, so there are a number of ways it could come to be someone's screen name.

Scaro I don't think he was seeking advice on tourmaline but on buying gems in India , at least that is what I gathered from his first post on the topic.
Agreed with you on 'Hafiz' , have plenty around me in Pakistan.
