Hello All !
I've been reading here for several days and find this place absolutely amazing. Full of helpful and knowledgable people who don't hesitate to share.
About me : i'm a total beginner in gemology, but in the light of my future business endeavors in east africa, i decided to get some proper education.
I've already enlisted in one local geology and mining university for their short course on gemology(90hrs lections and lab), but i also plan on getting some GIA education as well.
My main reason is the fact that from next year i will be visiting Tanzania in relation to my current work. I will be in Dar, Arusha and also Mwanza. Think this will be a great opportunity to start a new hobby or why not a carreer :)
So, in reading the posts i got several things covered - the belomo loupe, the gemoro microscope...
My question is from where can i buy mr Hanneman's Guide to affordable gemology and his filter sets(im in EU)?
What other literature do you recommend? Matlins&Bonnano's Gem Identification Made easy?
Thank you

I would recommend The Handbook of Gemmology. It is an extensive book on disc that would give you a wealth of information. Its awesome!

Hi and Welcome.
Hanneman's book is available here
http://store.gemologyonline.com/marketp ... php?id=594
And the filters are on backorder.

I would recommend reading through our GemologyProject and Dr. Smigel's Introduction to Gemology.

It will give you a basic (and free) introduction to gemology so you will better understand what you will need if you decide to pursue it.

We are always here for any questions you might have in the future.
