Hey everyone....

I am collecting and hunting petrified wood in Colorado, I have probably close to a ton of it so far. :)

I need a way to be able to wet cut this stone, some of the pieces can be 8-12 inches wide, so how to cut pieces that big, what equipment do I need at a low cost to get started? I see that many wet cutters can cut about 2-4 inches depth but I need something that can cut straight but at a depth of 8-12 inches, what do I need for this?

Also what is the best way to polish pieces this big once cutting has been completed?

Hoping for some great dialog here, I'm a newb to much of this stuff. Thank you all in advance, big fan of gems! 8)

Hi, there are seriously big diamond saws available, which would be capable of cutting your petrified wood.
Also, lapping equipment, but you are looking at big$$$.
It would be possible to hire a concrete cutting saw, and slab that way.
Barry.

Probably the cheapest approach to cutting would be a wire saw, which uses a wire and some form of cutting grit. For polishing, talk to a local monument (gravestone) maker. Likely they can do the cutting, too.
