Hi, Well, you could use any microscope you like! BUT the first microscope you have posted a link to is designed for biological samples, not gemstones. So, it is designed to take biological slides easily. It doesn't have a stone holder, so if you want to look at stones through it, you will have to rig up a way of holding the stone steady in the focus field of the lens. Also, from what I remember of biological scopes, it doesn't have the darkfield lighting capacity that you will want if you are going to look at gemstones. Again, you might be able to rig something up after quite a bit of fiddling, but, unless you have some pressing need to look at biological slides as well as stones (in which case you probably want to think about two microscopes anyway), why would you bother? Just get a microscope that's designed for gems, and you will have a stone holder and the lighting that you need . Good luck, and have fun!

There are some wonderful experts on this forum who can probably give you some great recommendations, and they will be able to help you even more if you can tell them what your budget is!

Thanks for your reply! Basically, as a beginner, my budget i think is no more than $300. The most magnification is 60 power is better and enough.

KKK2000,
Try this, web search Graves faceting, drop down menu, faceting supplies, optivisors and loupes, you will see the 2 items you have asked about on 1 page.
I have the Gemoro elite which is functional for me, for a serious gemmo it would be a barely functional piece of gear, depends how many hours a day you spend peeking down it.
No I don't get commision from Graves, I just know they have some budget gear in stock.
