Hi All, First time post. Strictly beginner. From Ohio USA currently in Kabul, Afghanistan. I try to Study beginners basic gemology in my spare time when I am not working. I love going to the bazaar and looking through the gemstones. Most are not even from here but there are a few. Anyways...I bought the rough stone in the pics below for $10 as a souviner just because I liked it. The man said it was Flourite. It is agua green on one half and deep purple on the other and they blend together. The clarity on the green end is very good, like thick glass. The purple end is very dark. It is approx. 8 cm x 6 cm and 4 cm thick. I dont have access to gemological instruments...just internet. Sorry the pics arent so great. All I have is my phone for pics. Any comments that it is or is not Flourite...Thanks!
That particular color combination is pretty much unique to fluorite (and very typical). It also shows very typical cleavage faces within which convince me it's not a glass fake or something. At 10 bucks you got a good deal imo, it looks like a pretty specimen. If you want to be extra sure, do a hardness test. Fluorite has hardness of 4, so it's softer than glass but harder than a penny.
