Good afternoon,

I have a old style diamond balance. The kind that the base is in wood and serve to keep everything. When you look at first, it is a box. You have to open it to install the balance.

My question is: can it be used as a specific balance? Weight the gem in air and after in the water? After that, calculate the difference?

But I am sure that it can not be so easy. Can someone explain to me why?

Thank you.

Brigitte

That kind of scaeles are not suited to work as specific gravity balance. They are travellers kits for weighing gems in the field.
