Hi, I have a few questions about colour zoning in blue sapphires, 1)does colour zoning indicate if a stone is natural or synthetic 2)does it appear in treated stones(ie:heat or be treated) 3)does colour zoning in patterns which turn in 120 degree angles or form in straight parallel lines have any significance.

hi,
1) No 2) Yes 3) No....if color zoning follows straight lines or angled (120°) that means that during the crystal growth there has been a different supply of cromophores from the environment around the crystal...............
Is it possible distinguish between a heated and natural sapphire by just viewing it under magnification,if yes please elaborate or please let me know if there are any other methods to identify if it is treated or natural in the absence of scientific equipment.
