I guess your American...French IS a universal language...shame you can't speak it...or read it...or make any sense out of it...Guess it must be the language that's at fault and not you.

As Barbra said...science is a universal language and if you can't translate a few words that aren't universal then maybe you should get some translation software...or maybe you should learn a little French.

Why all the world should print in a language you understand is baffling for me...maybe folk have knowledge that is important in any language...let them publish...understanding what they write is our responsibility not theirs

Just my 2 centimes worth (that's euro centimes)

Frank

...I think you have missed the irony of his statement. He made it explicit in his last post that he was joking. No need to take offense.

Bonjour Frank,

you got me wrong - of course I don't think French or any other language is "at fault".

I am sure you are aware of the old quarrel whether French or English should be
the universal language of the world. I was only joking on that basis - maybe not a very good joke,
but by no means I wanted to be offensive!

Barbara is right - I am German.

I am sorry if you felt offended by my inconsidered joke.

kind regrads,

Michael

I think French should be a mandatory language for everyone

Actually Barbra it used to be in England if it still is I do not know
You also have to know some of it in cooking terms as well

I find it hard to pronounce though.

Regarding languages, Charles V, a spanish emperor in the XVIth century, used to say the following :
I use english for trading, french for diplomacy, german to speak to horses, italian to speak to women and spanish to speak to God.

Obviously he wasn't a gemologist, otherwise he would have made up his mind as to which was the best language for it !

The conclusion is, the more languages you understand, the more areas you can deal with !
