Im new here so hopefully ive posted in the correct place!
Just a quick question...apart from personal preference/whats in fashion why do some diamond cutters choose to facet the girdle, whereas others choose to polish or to have a bruted girdle?
What are the advantages of choosing one method over the other- if any?
Bruted girdles are the old standard as polished and faceted girdles formerly had to be none "by hand". Today computerised equipment carries out the faceting or polishing of girdles more or less automatically which have made it easier and more common.

And simply when we look at the aesthetics of the diamond, a faceted girdle is an improvement. When you rock a diamond from side to side, a bruted girdle is clearly visible whereas a faceted girdle is far less visible.

Today still The Cutters mostly leave the Girdle Bruted or Unpolished if The Diamond's Color is more than M/N because the unpolished girdle makes a grayish shades which in Very light & Light Yellow Diamonds makes the color at least one grade better also the cost and time of faceting and polishing the girdle is not reasonable in lower colors which makes the cost more...
