Hi All;

I have a lovely aquamarine ring nearly 8 carats, (RI 1.569 - 1.574). The stone is mounted, and the setting wraps around the back so my view through the sides and pavilion is limited. The stone is very clean under the microscope. I am thinking it is a hydrothermal beryl as it is so very very clean.

I have tried darkfield, shadowing and angled lighting with the fiber optic arm. I am looking for chevron growth structures typical of hydrothermal synthetics.

I am a beginner at detecting synthetics; does anyone have any lighting tips for the microscope to help me find any chevron type growth structures?

Thank you!
