Hello,

I just discovered two more items from my FIL. I've been looking through the GIA product site (looks like he had basic kit) and I think I found the lens is a polarizing filter for the refractometer

But this other one, I'ts small, about an I 3/4" long ) thought might be a spectroscope. One of the lens seems dirty and one side has a separating line through the opening. I don't see any way to adjust , spent awhile looking at a blue topaz I had and a yellow quartz , but I couldn't see any rainbow coloring.

Perhaps it isn't a spectroscope? More than likely it is operator related, but I don't want to spend any more time trying to get it to do anything it isn't supposed to.

Here's a pix. (before you ask) that's a beat up crochet needle to show size

Thanks,

Mer

Thanks Alberto. Wishful thinking on my part, as I had just ordered a new dicroscope from mineralab and had hoped this was another piece to my gemstone toolbox a spectroscope.

And that explains the "line" I spoke about, it was really two windows side by side.. so I guess this is a calcite dicroscope??

I'm going to read my minerlab order and see if i can return that. Can't afford to have two of them.
