Does anyone know if any of that beautiful dark purple facet-grade Uruguay Amethyst ever makes it out as a mineral specimen?

In general, is it more valuable to preserve Amethyst as a mineral specimen or break it up to distribute it for faceting?

Thanks
Scott

Amethyst geodes from Uruguay and Brazil are a staple of the mineral biz. For sale in every rock shop, every rock show, around the world. So common as to be of no interest to serious collectors, but great for beginners or interior decorators.

Sold, literally, by the ton. I saw a massive tent full back in the day at Tucson, spilling out of crates filled with sawdust.

Feel free to saw them up for faceting.
