Hello Everyone,

I've just owned a Eickhorst Gemled refractometer, and i can't see the correct readings of my tiny stones. may the fact that they are very small (3mm) be and issue? or am i doing something wrong?

thank in advance for your help,

Emiliano.

3mm is not that small.
I suspect you are using too much RI liquid.

Tip: after putting your drop on the hemicylinder, take a paper towel and roll a wee bit into a point with your fingers. Use the little point to absorb access liquid.

Dear Emiliano, Welcome to Gemology online forum. :D :D :D

put the stone in the middle of the hemicylinder and also slightly press the stone. Try this and get the correct and sharp reading.

with best regards

I'm sorry, I have never pressed on a gemstone on a hemicylinder in my 30+ years of using a refractometer.

I think this is an idea which will scratch the hemicylinder.

Thank you Barbra For the advice, i could finally get right readings.

I have to get use to this refractometer, because in classes i use a Shibuya one and see the shadow edges darker whith more contrast.

Thank you Osman, i like this forum, people are so kind and helpful. :D

Glad to hear that.
Your Eickhorst refractometer is top of the line. I own one too.

And, as Barbra said, be very careful with your hemicylinder. Believe me, I know... :?
