Greetings,

I have a question about dichroic tourmaline. When viewing a source material at multiple angles, which angles should concern you if an unpleasant color appears? If the desired color is along the c-axis is it, for the most part, okay, or is it difficult to say without observing the piece first hand?

Insight welcome,

The unpleasant color will commonly reflect into the stone anyway if faceted. Try to stay away from stones with unpeasant colors until you get skilled enough. Of course you could always buy stones cheaply which are unpleasant in one direction to practice on and see the results.
Tourmaline is always dichroic more or less pronounced.
