I would try with another thermal diamond tester.
I highly doubt that is a diamond.

me thinks these diamond testers aren't worth the packaging they come in. I've seen alot of these spring up on ebay... Perhaps you should get a host of sample stones and test it on each of them and see its reaction.

I highly doubt that what you have there is a coloured diamond.

In that color, cut en cabochon?! I'm with the above: highly doubt it. Take it to a Gemologist and have some real testing done to it.

This Product Is New To The Market And Has Been Recommended By A Certified Gem Tester As Being Reliable. The Item Was Not Purchased On Ebay It Was Brought Direct From A Reputable Company. I Did However Look At Ebay. com.au And Ebay.com And Found No Kefeng Combo Tester Available.???For Intrest Sake When Exactly Do You Recall Seeing This Item For Sale On Ebay.

Hi Tanias,

despite we always discourage our members to try a gemstone ID by a picture only, i'm now taking the risk to break the rule: That is NOT a diamond, please try to metabolize the idea you don't have a zillion $$$ stone (that was likely the value of a 20+ carat violet blue diamond...) in your hands.
Now, about the diamond tester i dunno what's wrong with it but, again, that is not a diamond, i would suggest you (as others did) to submit the stone to a professional gemologist for id.
ciao
alberto

I am with Barbra, Stonebender and Alberto.

Like Alberto, I would go as far as breaking the rules and say that it is not a diamond.
The size, cut (cabochon) and color makes it more than unlikely.
The manufacturing of the ring and the way that the stone sits in the mounting leads me to beleive that the stone has been glued in rather than set.
If this was the case, it would not even be a good prognostic for a natural stone or a gold mounting.
That being said, keep in mind that these are only impressions from a picture and should be taken as such.

If you would like to know what the stone is, I would recommend that you have it tested by a professional gemologist.

PS...I use an older thermal diamond tester for large jobs and it works like a charm. :D
I have found the new Moissanite/Diamond testers are a little unreliable.

My first thought after seeing the pixs was "How many cabbed diamonds are there? Why would you cab a diamond?"

If I had to *guess*, it's amethyst. If it's natural at all.

I have seen many times a large synthetic corundum gives positive id for diamond with these testers. Okay, this is combo… combo of what???

just found the chinese manufacturer here. From the few infos provided it seems the pen "..can distinguish the false product of diamond, Moissanite and CZ, etc. by only one time testing".... (quoted from the description)

Not to mention (oops I mentioned it) why would someone ever suspect a stone that looked like that to be a diamond? I find that analogous to finding a water color landscape in the closet and suspecting it might be the Mona Lisa. Sure, the Mona Lisa doesn't look anything like it, but hey.
:| Sorry, I don't get it.

And, I have never gotten diamond readings with a thermal tester on corundum. Must be a lot of useless thermal testers out there.
