 Post subject: Natural Green Spinel

Does such a thing exist?

It seems to always get lumped in with spinel's potential colours in mineral sites etc., but every one I have ever seen in a pic seems to be a synth.

:) i think vismay or lyric ? posted a green spinel (natural) on the forum a while back, cannot find the link to the posting though, with a pic. some are a teal color, called "ceylonite?"-really pretty.

some of it was found in pak north in 09 , good crystals but mostly opaque.

asking price was also way up north.

Dear gruoup fellow!

Recently I see the green spinel which are comes form Northern area of Pakistan.This green spinel is mined from the same mine from where the Blue Spinel colored by cobalt is mined.

Cobalt oxide gives a nice green as a pigment... What are these spinels like?

In my GIA refrene guide , it says light green is rare

the only thing i was able to find was Burma , i guess had green -blue

but this is from 1997
but did search online all came up with synthetic like you said

Dark Green Spinel called Ceylonite is a Rare color of spinel found only in Sri Lanka .

Yea, most of the very few I have seen have been 'sapphire green'
