Hello everybody ,
Would you help to identify the stone . These small pieces are from 1.500 kilo rounded stone , founded in a village in mountains in Turkey It is magnetic , has a proportion of nickel ( has been tested in a laboratory for it ) . But there is an issue that it is a meteorite. Thank you in advance . LuckyG

Meteorite's usually are not found in that shape and texture, it looks more like a slag to me. Check the hardness, using tip of a steel knife if it scratches or otherwise use Quartz to scratch it,

Slag has a strongly conchoidal fracture. This appears to just be what we in geology would call "some sort of rock."

Yes i agree glass has conchoidal fracture, that's why i asked him to check the hardness, if it might be magnetite, heavy steel knife will at least leave a streak mark on it but could scratch glass of hardness 5, quartz will definitely scratch magnetite....

Hello ,
God bless you all to be able to reply to me . I didn't expect to . I did a steel scratching test , it is positive ; a steel streak mark. But quarts was not willingly leaving a mark . I have a piece of jadeite . It leaves the obvious scratch mark . I don't know what to expect. There is supposed to be an answer . It looks like a piece of rock to me , enriched with nickel . Thank you LuckyG

Lately we have identified several specimens of leaverite. It's far more common than most folks realize. 8)

Meteorites are formed under low gravity. It can not be any layer or linear structure in meteorite, those form at earths gravity. An in you you piece you have a line across of different color in your stone. It's definitely not a meteorite. I did quite a bit research on meteorites. Because I used to sell rough and cut olivines from pallasite meteorites.

Please bear in mind that this is predominately a gemological/lapidary board.

The rock you posted is, frankly, a rock with no gemological nor lapidary relevance.

If you want it identified for you own edification, bring it to the earth science dept of a local university and ask for help.

Hope you will be lucky and get the info you desire.
