The elongated emerald is an eye catcher. One of my favorites from Ryan's collection.

Where did you get the octahedra? I'd kinda like to get some for myself for Christmas...

From yesterday's workload. Nice looking pinkish Zircon oval. Stats: 2.14ct - 8.2 x 6.1mm
Nothing fancy really regarding the facet arrangement. It was an improvisation of the brilliant design extruded over the length of the oval.
*was heated to 475*C, and held for one hour. **I know some folks like to hold their Zircon's over an open flame, but I am not a fan of this technique.

I got them from a friend of mine, a trusted gem retailer. Two of them I snatched up in 2007, the other I got just this year. They are very hard to find that big and clean in that color. PM me and I can tell you more!

Got these from Mr. Jason! Allegedly  copper-bearing tourmaline from Mozambique. Each are approx 4.5mm for a total of 1.50ctw.

I have yet to become tired of cutting asscher like gems. I suppose I really enjoy looking at them as well. Picked up this rough from the infamous.... Tom Schneider at Tucson's Pueblo show a couple years ago. Thought they were unbelievably expensive at the time. It's possible the economy has caught up with my purchasing as they are now priced well in the marketplace.

Stats
5.71ct total
7.95 x 7.95 x 6.70mm; corner-to-corner = 8.85mm
according to Tom, untreated

edited to add: .... oh yeah, Afghani Tourmaline!

Pink! I like! However, knowing not to try to identify gemstones by pictures ... what are they? 8)

Spessartite from the Loliondo site in Tanzania
Given the outline of the rough, I knew a cushion would suit it well. I didn't start with a specific design to create the cushion look. But used a split tier system to arrive at the keel-culet. Then basically did the same on the crown. The pavilion starts at 55* at the girdle, and ends at 41* at the culet. The crown begins at 42* at the girdle, and ends at 28*. I know someone is likely to ask.... no, I don't have it in gemcad. It's in my head though 8)

Nicely done Rog. I remember discussing that rough when it came across the desk in TZ. Guess you made the right decision!
