Being so close to Christmas seems every job is urgent. Just finished a recut where I took a poorly made oval/roval and converted it into a princess cut.
Stats: Final wgt: 1.35ct 6.0 x 6.0 x 3.95mm probably heated, but heat only as I acquired this stone in the mid-90's and Beryllium wasn't on the radar at the time.
~and for those wanting the tech: using a 64 index gear Pavilion P1 (side breaks) at 49* P2 -/+ 1st index at 43* P2 -/+ 2nd index at 39*
Crown C1 (side breaks) at 36* C1 -/+ 1st index at 27* C2 -/+ 2nd index at 23*
Would have gone higher on the crown but I ran out of room. Didn't seem to hurt the final result.

Can't add rock that isn't there. Sure turned out pretty!

That is very nice ... whatever it is . Yes, I know the mention of beryllium kind of gives it away, but not everyone reading this thread will know that .
Okay miss smarty-pants.... so I failed to mention it was a Sapphire. So there, now we know.

Last January while in Voi Peter T. and I picked up a fair amount of smaller sized Kenyan golden Tourmaline rough. I kept the larger pieces and sold off the smalls. Most all of it showed a strong dichroism - though both directions were golden in color. On one side it was lighter tone, with the C direction being darker in tone. The crown on this one is the A/B direction. Unfortunately from this parcel, the largest stone will have finished out at about 2-1/2cts. We suspected larger roughs may come available, but we didn't find it on this trip.
Stats on the above Tourmaline: 1.76ct - 6.9 x 6.9 x 5.1mm Is presumed these Tourmalines have not been heated, yet. The mining site is south, and east of Voi - on the way to Mombasa.

Have been cutting up some of the new goods I brought back last week from Africa. This piece is from the Morogoro site in Tanzania. 2.21ct Spinel in a classic cushion outline. Step-cut crown, with a brilliantier-effect for the pavilion.
The pavilion facets only vary from 44* on the sides to 39* at the corners, so there isn't a wide range. GemCad was not used to create this, just made it up as I worked to keep the size intact. Under incandescent lights, has a hint of red peeking through.

I saw this blue on facebook. Very nice, Roger! Glad you posted it here. How does it look under fluor.?
Hi Jason, As blue Spinels go, it leans towards purplish blue, instead of green-blue. And under fluorescent lighting, it is primarily blue, with just the slightest hint of purple.
