Is it a garnet? Is it a sapphire? What the heck is it?

I wrote a little something about our visit to the gemstone Fair in Idar-Oberstein last week.

Excellent article, Tim!
Keep in mind that many of these Idar-Oberstein Masters also do the Tucson Show. There is a German Pavillion in Tucson, albeit small; it's quite impressive.

In fact, Pedro, a large amount of tourmalines were coming from African countries. The sizes were just amazing. Most exhibitors didn't like me with my camera so I only posted images provided by one jeweler who has realized that sharing stuff with the press may work in his advantage.

There was large amounts of BIG, excellent colored stones of all kinds...

Did I mention a 700+ ct Tanzanite btw? The biggest one in the world according to the seller?
