HOW are they IDing non treated Tanzanite?? This is an important question for me as I sometimes buy it but have not been able to gemologically prove it is not treated once the inclusions have been cut out.

This is all much ado about nothing. If is impossible to prove a negative hypothesis. (i.e., It is not treated.)

Consequently, the best anyone can ever say is, "I found no evidence of treatment." Of course, the "value" of such a statement depends solely on the knowledge and reputation of the one making the statement. New treatments are constantly being developed and such a statement may be meaningless before it is written. :D :D

I understand this, but to my customers no evidence of heat treatment is a good thing at times. Is anyone doing this kind of report? And if so who and how reputable are they?

For anyone going to Tucson next week, I would recommend attending Alan Hodgkinson's talk on Friday morning, 9 am. Some of my instruments will be available,

There is no lecture immediately following, so there will be plenty of time to discuss gems with the "master".
