Dr. John Emmett
Join the GIA's Golden Gate Alumni Society for a straight forward lecture on how diffusion treatments and processes are creating and affecting our gemstone supply. Dr. John Emmetts' company, Crystal Chemistry, is devoted to the research and development of the gemstone modification processes.
Dr. Emmett, a Stanford Ph.D. and consultant to GIA, specialized in laser physics and engineering and was part of the team at the Lawrence Livermore Laboratory that created the world's most powerful, solid state laser system (NOVA) before entering the gem world. Dr. Emmett's diffusion lectures are fun and informative - a great combination. You will enjoy this evening!
Happy hour fun! ~ Bring your most unusually treated stone and see who can identify it (the stone and the treatment). There will be a prize for the person who brings the most remarkable stone.
