I might... it's been submitted up for approval with the wise and all-knowing designated authorities. It's not that far a drive... 548km, 5 hours...

Will know more tomorrow, the authorities are up north today.

i would be very happy to met you there mate! Please be aware it can be an expensive experience tohugh... :? one day fair ticket = 41 euro, one espresso= >4 euro and so on.....
Of course there's no need to inform the AUTHORITIES about these insignificant issues..... 8)
neverthless i suggest you to visit the fair one time, it growed up very fast in last 5 years, more that 2000 exhibitors and what i can consider the bigger exposition of tools available.
about stones, almost only polished goods but, believe me, you can see exceptional stuffs there....
ciao bello

Welcome to Switzerland! The nice thing about living there is that anyplace else seems so affordable :-)

I wish I could do Basel this year, but it's not going to work. I may do Munich again the the fall though. It's a chance to see pretty rocks and visit my friends and relatives. Also to stock up on some of the foods we miss.

Ciao Alberto!!! or shall I say gruezi :D
How I wish to be there!

I wonder if de Grisogono will be there , very expensive but magnificent jewellery. Everytime I look at one piece it reminds me of food ...

delicious grape earrings

Have a great time, and do not forget to eat some rosti .

Quegli Italiani! But I have to agree. Other than my aunt's cooking, I'd much, much rather eat in Italy than Germany. Eating over the border in Freiberg costs a third of what it does to eat in Basel.

yep, i went to germany many times between the 80' and 90' (mainly in the north) so i was used to the local cousine when i first time went to that hotel.....and....OMG  the place where i eat better in Germany for sure!!! as the years passed i said that to some friends asking me for hotel accomodations near Basel and you know what? 5 years ago i booked easily 1 month in advance, this year i took the LAST free room booking on jan 5th!!! sometimes it's better to shut up, sad but true!

ciao

Sorry Alberto I am afraid I have to disagree with you on this one.
Have you ever try Schnitzel Holstein with German fried potatoes, red cabbages. Have you ever tried the liver soup or the potatoes leek soup?
And for desert a good apple strudel.
Oh yes and the good German beer (WARSTEINER for example)
Germans do know how to cook. But again it all depends in your food preferences.
Ciao Alberto!
