Hi everyone,
As we are all gemaholics here, and have a fervent interest in all things gems and gemology..... The next conference produced by the folks who provide the "Guide" is coming this October 9th/10th in Chicago. Details can be found here:
http://www.worldofgemsconference.com/

I attended the last conference and felt it was fantastic for the money and time spent. Great topics presented by the best and brightest in our industry. Some of this year's presenters are:

Dr. James Shigley
Distinguished Research Fellow, GIA

Shane F. McClure
Director of West Coast Identification Services, GIA

Christopher P. Smith
President, American Gemological Laboratories

Dr. John L. Emmett,
President, Crystal Chemistry, one of the world's foremost authorities on the heat treatment, physics, and chemistry of corundum

Richard B. Drucker
Gemworld International
Publisher of GemGuide

Stuart M. Robertson
Gemworld International
Research Director of the GemGuide

Jon Phillips
Vice President, CIBJO Diamond Commission, Committee member of the Responsible Jewelry Council (RJC) Standards Commission

There will be other speakers, but the list above shows who has already committed. I am attending, and if there are others from GO interested, perhaps we can arrange a get-together in the evening???

I agree Roger, the last one was quite good.

I'm planning on attending, so count me in for any gathering! I seem to remember some good fun in the bar - but that was before the rain!

Hey Christine,
In addition to you and John F., do you know of others from GO that are attending?

Hi Roger,

Just us so far. Maybe your post will shake a few out of the woodwork!!!

FYI for others in the area.

Friday night from 5:30 PM to 7:30 PM, there will be an informal “Meet and Greet” for anyone that would like to attend. This is a no-host event at the Ice Bar in the hotel lobby. The event will also feature the local GIA Alumni Chapter in this social setting. If you are in town at this time, please stop by.

The hotel is the InterContinental O'hare.

Best,
Christine

Hi all,
Been having an awesome time at the Gemworld Conference in Chicago. Great presenters, with valuable and useful information. Dr Lore Kiefert was a last minute addition, and I must say I didn't expect her to be so funny. Not that she was telling jokes, but her style of presentation was such that everyone was giggling.

I especially appreciated the presentations by Shane F. McClure (Director of West Coast Identification Services, GIA) and Christopher P. Smith from American Gemological Laboratories

Looking forward to Sunday's line-up.

Hi Everyone,

I have to second Roger's comments. It has been an excellent conference. They began to address the controversy over the grading of diamonds that fluoresce. Things got quite lively! That spilled over into the dinner/cocktail party when we coaxed the Chicago Police Department Drum and Pipe band to come to our party after they left the wedding next door. They stayed for quite awhile fueled by beer and scotch.

Sunday was an equally stimulating day. John Emmet gave a great talk on Diffusion, Elisabeth Strack on Pearl Treatments ( more than you could ever imagine) , Jim Shigley on lab grown diamonds, and the afternoon session dealt with lab reports and their inconsistencies. Antoinette Matlins kept things lively.

Richard Drucker (GemGuide) puts on an top notch conference. Very cohesive, professional, and collegial - even when things become heated - (ha ha get it, heated?).

BTW, I also might add that Roger Dery's stones are stunning in person, and the photo's on his web site do not do them justice.
