Is anyone using a digital refractometer? If so, what do you think about this instrument. I was looking at the Gem-n-Eye as a possible replacement for my old GIA Duplex refractometer.
I would appreciate any feedback and insight.

Thanks,
G

The Gem-n-Eye is not a replacement for a refractometer. It can be used in addition to a refractometer but if I had to choose one instrument over the other, I'd choose a refractometer 100% of the time.

If you want a reflectometer buy a Diamond Eye or a Jeweler's Eye directly from Dr. Bill whom you can contact through the list here. Or buy a used Jemeter on ebay or a Presidium outfit.

They require skill to use. You have to have an idea what you are looking at. (as Dr. Bill has said confirmative NOT determinative.)
THEY ARE NOT A REPLACEMENT FOR A REFRACTOMETER!!!
I know we would all love it if they were but they are not.

The Gem n Eye and the one from Austria and the new one from China are not worth the high prices they charge in my opinion. You cannot measure dispersion nor birefringence in a hand held reflectometer. MAYBE on a laboratory ellipsometer.
